Lay down a drop cloth and begin squaring off the hole in the ceiling using a drywall saw.
Next, seal the holes in the vents with aluminum tape.
Separate the AC and dryer vents as much as possible and secure them into place.
Now you can patch up the hole in the ceiling. Begin by cleaning up the edges by removing any spare screws. Measure the drywall and cut it to size (Image 1). Screw the drywall in place (Image 2).
Apply the first layer of drywall mud to create a seal. Allow it to dry completely, sand it down, and repeat as needed. To complete the project, prime and paint the ceiling.
