How to Drive and Hide Nails

If you've used a hammer, you've probably occasionally hit your finger instead of the nail. Here are some safe techniques for driving nails and for hiding them, if you don't want them to be seen.

        Highlights:

        Step 1: Hammer the Nails

        Tips for Driving Nails:

        • Place the nail between your index and middle fingers, with your fingernails facing down (Image 1).
        • Use a set of needle-nose pliers to grasp the nail while you hammer it (Image 2) or place the nail through the teeth of a hair comb (Image 3).
        • Place a small lump of clay on the tip of the nail. Move the clay before you drive the nail all the way.

        Step 2: Hide the Nails

Use a small hammer to cut a sliver from the surface of the wood (Image 1).

Hammer the nail underneath the sliver (Image 2).

Glue the sliver back down over the head of the nail.
