        Highlights:

Step 1: Check for Electrical Wires in the Wall

IMPORTANT: Be sure to start the project by making sure there are no electrical wires in the area of the wall you are working on. If there are, shut off the electricity to those wires before you begin. You will need to carefully cut around them and then reroute them within the wall.

Step 2: Break Through the Wall

Using a sledgehammer, break through the wall where the window will be located. Be sure to wear safety glasses.

        Step 3: Cut Window

Cut out the desired shape using a reciprocating saw (Image 1). Try to mimic the shape of existing windows and archways so the new window matches the rest of the home (Image 2).

        Step 4: Install Drywall

Cut out and screw on drywall pieces to fit the new walls of the opening. Mud, tape and paint the drywall to match the home’s existing walls.
