          $500 - $1,000

        • Difficulty

          Moderate

        Highlights:

        Step 1: Establish Wiring

Run electrical wire from the house to the area where the column will be installed.

        Step 2: Prepare the Surface

Mark the position of each column. Dig out a base for each column. To create weight-bearing pads, pour four inches of concrete into each base.

        Step 3: Build Column Interior

Wait for pad to set up. Mortar stackable concrete units together and fill with cement.

Step 4: Face Column With Stone

Apply a scratch coat of mortar to column surface with a trowel; let dry. Butter the back of the cultured stone pieces and apply them to each column. Note: A dry-stack design requires no grout between stones.

        Step 5: Top Columns

Top columns with caps. Drill a hole through each cap; pull electrical lines through the openings. Attach light fixtures per manufacturer's instructions.
