stained deck

we recently stained our cedar deck with Penofin lightly tinted oil based stain & it came out much darker than we wanted. Is there a way to lighten this color without damaging our year old deck?? HELP !!! my husband broke his butt building deck and now is very upset to see his hard work ruined...again HELP !!!
