Slider windows???

I tried to make my sliding windows more efficient but nothing seem to work. Any ideas?

Checking drafts with a candle

I'm not so sure I would promote using a candle for drat detection. There is a possibility that a candle flame can be sucked into a drafty crevis and start materials on fire inside the wall or casing. A safer way is to use a smoke stick, smoke pen or even a insence stick so that the smoke shows the draft and not a flame.

What caulk to choose

Typically a caulk with some or all silicone should be used. Confirm that it is formulated for outdoor use - UV resistant, weather-resistant. If you use a 100% silicone caulk, it is generally not paintable (although, GE does make a 100% silicone that is paintable so a color to match the window would be the best choice. If not picking an all-silicone caulk, then get one that is "siliconized acrylic latex" - this has a little silicone in it for movement and won't crack but still can be painted if necessary.

What Caulk to choose

Should I choose a clear caulk or one that matches the exterior window color? Can you recommend a particular caulk since there are so many varieties to choose from.
ALso, what is the best way to store caulk once the tube is opened?

I am so grateful for the DIY website & all the step by step intructions included to do some of our own home improvements. Being unemployed has forced me to try & do some of the simple maintenance on my own. Thank you!
