Treehouse

This is fate! I just cracked open my Coastal Living magazine and saw the wonderful treehouse. I am trying to build a treehouse for my son for his 9th birthday. I see the list of materials, but not quantity of each material, can you detail how many of each materials I will need? Also, I don't have as many trees, so I will need to just build a support base. I am assuming I am ok to build the house as is and add the base in lieu of the steps to attach to the tree. Any other advice?

Does it hurt the trees?

This is a very cool tree house, wish I had it growing up. Does building a tree house like this damage the trees eventually killing them? I would love to have one for my grandkids but don't want to kill the trees.
