Cut several 12' lengths with hand pruners. Remove the leaves and all green growth down to the bare shoot. Tie several shoots together and lash one end to fencepost or a stake. Arch the flexible bundle, tying the other end to another post or stake.
Bean runners can be wrapped around the privet arch. They will begin to grow up the privet on their own, creating a decorative archway. The added height allows the beans to receive more sun and makes harvesting easier. Do not allow the privet to touch the ground, where it can easily reroot itself.
