Step 1: Measure the Location
Measure and lay out the location for the post anchors.
Step 2: Install the Post Anchors
Install post anchors using a masonry bit and masonry fasteners.
Step 3: Attach a Ledger
Remove siding from the house for the ledger. Attach a double 2x10 ledger to the house using lag screws and treated lumber.
Step 4: Install the Posts
Set the posts in place and fasten them with lag bolts.
Step 5: Install the Joists
Build exterior rim of the frame. Install treated 2x10 joists using joist hangers.
Step 6: Assemble the Stairs
Attach 2x12 stair stringers and 2x10 cedar stair treads. Install 1-1/4x6 cedar floor boards and cedar railing and balusters.
