Make tick marks across the wall using a level and a tape measure or ruler. Mark on all four sides. Connect the tick marks using a straightedge. Apply painter's tape to the edge of the connected lines. Add butcher paper outside the chalkboard edge with painters tape. The butcher paper will protect the newly painted walls from any excess spray. Remember to work in a well-ventilated area or wear a dust mask.
Spray the chalkboard paint from side to side in the exposed area. Allow 2 to 3 hours to dry. Once the chalkboard is dry, remove the butcher paper and painters tape. Apply a 3" door casing on all four sides of the area. This will add a definite frame to the chalkboard.
Install the first shelf 36" from the ground. Make tick marks with measuring tape and pencil. Connect the tick marks with a level. Find the studs in the wall and mark with a pencil.
Drill L-brackets into the studs. Drop solid shelves into the L-brackets. Repeat these steps to install the second shelf. Hang a hook bracket to hold cleaning supplies in the second closet.
