Because this project won't remain outdoors for long, it's not necessary to use exterior-rated wood. We used a faux metal spray paint for the finish.
Pickets – eleven at 3/4" x 1-1/2" x 35-3/4"
Spacers – two at 3/4" x 1-1/2" x 2"
Rails – two at 3/4" x 1-1/2" x 36"
Stake – one at 3/4" x 1-1/2" x 13-1/4"
In any woodworking project, it's typically best to cut all parts for as you need them and not all at once. One small error can ruin an entire stack of lumber.
Use the layout (image 1) as a guide for marking and cutting the pickets. Cut the first picket, then trace the mitered end (45 degrees) on the 1x2s (image 2). Create 11 pickets total.
