Create a garden in your outdoor space with a planter with built-in trellis.
Start by cutting and labeling all parts.
Stain or paint all parts.
Join two bottom boards side by side with glue and pocket hole screws.
Join two pairs of side boards in same way.
Join two end boards in same way.
Using glue and pocket hole screws, attach side boards to bottom flush with lower, front and back edges.
Using glue and nails, attach end boards to bottom and side boards.
Glue and nail cleats to underside of box 3/4 inch from edges.
Staple weed-control fabric inside box.
Build lattice flat on a work surface. Place two verticals on work surface parallel to each other and 16 inches apart from outside edge to outside edge.
Center middle vertical between first two.
Glue and nail top horizontal across three verticals flush with top edges with 1 1/2-inch face down.
Glue and nail bottom horizontal 11 inches from bottom of verticals.
Glue and nail five remaining horizontals evenly between top and bottom boards.
Glue and nail lower edges of lattice to back of box. Keep lower edges of lattice flush with lower edge of box back.
Set planter against wall and train a climbing vine up trellis.
