Step 1: Watch an Overview Video

Step 2: Gather Your Materials and Tools

        Materials and Tools:

        measuring tape
        1/2-inch plywood
        paint or sealer
        sandpaper
        1x8 lumber or cedar boards
        4 bun feet
        wood screws
        hammer
        power drill with wood bit
        screwdriver

        Step 3: Measure Your Pet

A customized bed will keep your pet warm and cozy. Start by measuring your pet. Make the bed 4 inches longer than the length of your pet from head to tail and 4 inches wider than your pet’s widest point when curled up. Or size the frame to fit your pet’s favorite cushion.

Step 4: Cut and Sand the Plywood

Cut plywood to size for the bottom. Sand edges and paint or stain surfaces.

Paint or stain feet to match.

Step 5: Cut and Attach the Rails

Cut rails out of 1x8s, sand edges and apply paint or sealant.

Tip: Cedar rails will repel insects. Don’t paint or seal cedar or you’ll block the insect repelling oil.

Screw end and back rails to bottom with edges overlapping and flush. Pre-drilling holes will help prevent splitting.

Measure the front rail and divide into quarters. Attach one quarter-length at each end of front, leaving a center opening.

        Step 6: Finish the Bed

        Attach the feet.

Line the frame with your pet’s favorite cushion.
