Size the pit to fit the grill top.
Level the foundation with a hand tamp. Leave a little space between the cinderblocks in the pit so the water can drain.
The concrete footing should be the width of the cinderblock. Use a trowel and a carpenter’s level to make the footing completely smooth and level.
Tap the bricks into place with a trowel, scraping off excess mortar. Use a level to keep the bricks level and a carpenter’s square to keep the corners square. Alternate direction when you lay the second and third layers of brick.
Tip: Keep a multipurpose fire extinguisher near the pit
