How to Apply a Smoke Technique to a Wall

Step 1: Prep the Room

Prep the room by taping windows, doors and moldings with painter's tape. Place a drop cloth on the floor.

Step 2: Apply the Base Coat

Next, apply an eggshell finish to the walls, using a 9" x 1" nap lambskin roller, then allow to dry.

Step 3: Mix and Apply the Glaze

Mix several drops of violet and black tint into half a painter's bucket of latex glazing liquid.

Apply the glaze in small sections.

While the glaze is still wet, manipulate it with cheese cloth to get a smoky effect.
