Materials and Tools:

cast iron sink
new countertop
silicone sealant
coping saw or jig saw
2x4 lumber
shims
wood screws
power drill
measuring tape
pencil
safety glasses

Cut the Cabinet

For long-lasting beauty, update your kitchen with a cast iron sink.

Get a partner to help lift and align the cast iron sink.

Sink must be installed prior to countertop.

Remove faux drawer.

Measure in 7/8 inch from outside edge of sink base cabinet and mark line; repeat on other side.

Cut along marked lines until cut extends slightly beyond top of drawer opening. If cabinet has center support, cut at bottom even with drawer opening.

Follow bottom edge of top rail of cabinet, extend cut until it intersects with previous cut; repeat for other side. Remove and discard top rail.

Position and Secure the Supports

Cut two lengths of 2x4 to extend along inside walls on each side of base cabinet 1/2 inch from top of base cabinet.

Level and secure with screws.

Cut four lengths of 2x4s to reach from bottom of side supports to floor of cabinet.

Position two supports on each side and secure with screws.

Align and Level the Sink

Set sink in cabinet resting on supports.

Get partner to help move and align sink. Apron should be snug against front of cabinet face; top of sink should be flush against top of cabinet.

Shim to level.

Clean and dry top of sink.

Install the Countertop

Apply silicone sealant around sink rim. Apply more sealant along seam between countertop and sink.

Install new faucet and drain.

Run water to check for leaks.

Tip: To keep cast iron beautiful for generations, rinse after use and clean with cast iron cleanser and a soft cloth; never use steel wool, wire brushes, or abrasive sponge pads.
