Push sticks and push blocks are necessary tools for the table saw and joiner. They act as extensions for your hands to keep them away from the blade and out of harm's way when cutting.

Push sticks are available at the hardware store. The smaller push stick works well unless you're working with a long board. Sometimes you will get a little lift from the rotation of the blade when using that kind of push stick. The bigger, more complicated push sticks have a longer notch for holding the board eliminating a lift problem.
