Vises and clamps hold a work piece in place. Here are some tips about working with vises and clamps.

A vise works like a pair of extremely strong hands that hold a work piece securely. A vise consists of two large, flat jaws that adjust by turning a long screw.
When clamping something that moves around easily, apply emery cloth to the sides of the vise with double-sticking tape. When clamping something breakable, such as tile, surround the material with felt or a soft cloth.
Shoulder vises are clamped onto the side of a workbench. Hold-down vises are the most portable kind and can be clamped anywhere. Some workbenches come with built-in vises.
