1 ROTARY CUTTER: For cutting paper and fabrics, this is the ticket! It cuts through several layers at once; switch to decorative cutting blades for fast, fun finishes.

2 UTILITY SCISSORS: These cordless power scissors can cut through anything—even metal—and they can be mounted on a table for hands-free use.

3 C-CLAMPS: You'll want a variety of sizes to hold surfaces together while glue sets or you're screwing them in place.

4 UTILITY KNIFE: A good one can cut through multiple surfaces. This model stores extra blades (stock up on a bunch) in the handle.

5 METAL RULER: A steel ruler will always make a straight edge for marking and cutting. Get one marked down to 1/32-inch increments for accuracy.

6 CRAFT KNIFE: A light-duty knife is a musthave for making small, precise cuts and poking small holes.

11 ELECTRIC DRILL: This cordless wonder lets you make your guide holes, then tighten screws (or remove them, if necessary).

12 BASIC SEWING KIT: Make sure it includes thread, needles, marking pencils, a tape measure, thimble, seam ripper, straight pins, safety pins and a pair of fabric scissors.

13 CIRCULAR SAW: When you need a bit more oomph than a hand saw can provide or if you've got a lot of wood to cut, a lightweight electrical saw is the answer.

14 T-SQUARE: This won't just keep your corners perfectly square; it also adjusts and locks into any angle.
