ROTARY CUTTER: For cutting paper and fabrics, this is the ticket! It cuts through several layers at once; switch to decorative cutting blades for fast, fun finishes.
UTILITY SCISSORS: These cordless power scissors can cut through anything—even metal—and they can be mounted on a table for hands-free use.
C-CLAMPS: You'll want a variety of sizes to hold surfaces together while glue sets or you're screwing them in place.
UTILITY KNIFE: A good one can cut through multiple surfaces. This model stores extra blades (stock up on a bunch) in the handle.
METAL RULER: A steel ruler will always make a straight edge for marking and cutting. Get one marked down to 1/32-inch increments for accuracy.
CRAFT KNIFE: A light-duty knife is a musthave for making small, precise cuts and poking small holes.
HOT-GLUE GUN: A cordless model is extra-handy for those times when it's easier to take the gun to the project rather than vice-versa. (Stock up on an assortment of glue sticks for all kinds of surfaces.)
IRON: If you do any sewing or upholstery, a good steam iron is a must. One that can be used both vertically and horizontally lets you smooth out curtains and slipcovers while they're in place.
CUTTING MAT: A mat with grid lines is good for accuracy (and protecting your table, too). Cool colors.
HEAVY-DUTY STAPLER: Prevent fatigue and get the job done in a flash with a cordless model. This one works with six sizes of staples and has a window that lets you see when it's time for a refill. A nice combo of options.
ELECTRIC DRILL: This cordless wonder lets you make your guide holes, then tighten screws (or remove them, if necessary).
BASIC SEWING KIT: Make sure it includes thread, needles, marking pencils, a tape measure, thimble, seam ripper, straight pins, safety pins and a pair of fabric scissors.
CIRCULAR SAW: When you need a bit more oomph than a hand saw can provide or if you've got a lot of wood to cut, a lightweight electrical saw is the answer.
T-SQUARE: This won't just keep your corners perfectly square; it also adjusts and locks into any angle.
