A stump grinder is like a big chainsaw on wheels. It grinds back and forth across a stump to remove the wood fiber and sawdust.

To use the stump grinder, first set the choke. Engage the throttle halfway and turn the key to start the machine. Then open the throttle all the way and disengage the choke.
The machine has three levers. One lever moves the entire grinding head from left to right as you cut through the stump. Another lever moves the grinder arm up and down. As you cut into the stump, change the height to cut a little deeper each time. The third lever engages the drive wheels, which move the whole machine forward or backward.
