This dust-collection system is a two-part system that removes dust and debris from the air. It's a handy system to have, as it can be hooked up to many tools around the workshop.

A cyclone dust collection system is a two-stage system. Most of the dust is removed in the first stage, when it is collected into a large container through a spinning mass of air. The system uses centrifugal force and gravity to separate the dust from the airstream.
The air is then exhausted through the second stage of the system, which is a large external filter. It filters below one micron. To clean the filter, blow it out with compressed air. The dust from the center of the filter will settle into a catch can at the bottom.
With regular dust collection system, all the material goes through the fan. A large piece of wood or debris that gets into the system can impact and damage the fan. The cyclone system separates that large debris into the container drum before it can reach the fan and harm it.
The cyclone dust collection system can be hooked up to many tools but used with only one at a time. Use blast gates to direct all of the airflow to the tool being used.
