A Community Garden Makeover

Episode DGFI-410

The residents of El Monte, CA have always wanted their own community garden...a lush lot where they can pick fruits and vegetables and spend time with neighbors. But due to a lack of resources and expert guidance, the La Madera Community Garden remains nothing more than dirt, graffiti and mangled fence wire. So Jackie and Dean come to the rescue with a crowd of volunteers and show them how to build a breathtaking front entrance, complete with a galvanized metal fence, fruit vines, native plants, and decorative mulch and stone. The screen panels go in one by one but Dean's clever design makes the fence one-of-a-kind, while the front walk is created using a special stone compound that compacts down perfectly. Everyone in the neighborhood gets their hands dirty as grounds are improved on a grand scale!
