Mixing Cement- The cement-to-water ratio is an important factor in any concrete mixture. If a cement mixture has a low cement-to-water ratio it could become hard to place or work with. It is the ratio of water weight to cement weight.
- A cement mix with a high cement-to-water ratio is generally ideal because it is easier to work with. But you must be careful because too much water can decrease the durability of the cement.
- When cement is initially mixed it is plastic and malleable, but then becomes strong and durable through chemical processing.
- Ideally, a cement mixture should contain about 10 to 15 percent cement, 60 to 75 percent aggregate and 15 to 20 percent water. The best results are obtained when this product is mechanically mixed.
