Tempered Hardboard TemplateNote: Tempered hardboard (figure A) is a steam pressed wood product that is commonly used for paneling and partitions. You can purchase a 4 x 8 sheet from a hardware store for approximately $18. It is perfect for a template application because it is inexpensive and easy to work with.
1. Draw the shape on the tempered hardboard. The easiest way to draw the elliptical shape is to divide the hardboard piece into four equal sections. Use the framing square to make sure the lines are 90-degrees and symmetrical to one another.
2. The finished shape should be around four feet long by two feet wide. Measure the distance out and mark it on the corresponding center line.
3. The table ends need to be 12" wide, so measure out 6" on either side of the center line on both ends. The ends will also have a slight curve so you need to measure 5/8" out from the center of both ends to form a curve.
