  • Tail Curls and Painting
  • Tail Curls and Painting
    From "Woodsculpting"
    episode DWDS-105

The rooster is now nearly complete: the only steps remaining are cutting the curls of the tail and painting legs, neck, head and wattles ....

    • Tie a piece of string around your leg, leaving enough slack to slide the legs of the rooster underneath. Once the legs are secure -- with the tail branch turned outward so it isn't over the leg area -- use the large blade of the knife to make thin cuts along the tail branch, creating curls. Use short (but slow) forward repeated slicing motions.
    • Paint the detail of the bird using acrylic paints: the legs and neck should be yellow, while the head and wattles are painted red.
    • Paint a black dot on each eye using a sharp, fine-pointed stick.
