In this opening segment, we meet branch carver Chris Lubkemann, who shares a little about his 38-year history with the art of woodsculpting, then demonstrates how to begin carving a whimsical branch rooster ....
Steps:- To begin, first chose the type of tree branch to carve.
- After making sure your knife is extremely sharp, cut the branch to a length that's about two times its diamater, using the small blade of the knife.
- Start by shaping the head, carving away from yourself when possible. When you must cut toward yourself, be sure to guard your thumb as you draw the blade toward it.
- To make the head, whittle both sides as needed to keep the shape even.
