Tenons

Tenon -- The male part of a mortise-and-tenon joint. The end of a board, cut to a specific size and shape, that is inserted into the mortise, or opening, in a second board. An exposed tenon passes all the way through the second board so that the end is exposed. See also mortise.

Tung oil -- A natural oil extracted from the seeds of the Chinese tung tree. A versatile and common wood finish used in fine woodworking to accentuate the color and grain of wood.

Four thin-sliced veneer panels

Veneer -- Very thin slices of wood used for high-quality decorative woodworking. Frequently in furniture-making, less expensive hardwoods such as poplar may be veneered with a more decoratively grain or exotic wood for a more impressive appearance. The wood to which the veneer is joined is termed the substrate. Fine veneers are often joined to the substrate using glue and a vacuum-press process.
