    Single- and double-hung windows can be damaged over years of being raised and lowered.

    Note: Illustration A available using

    1. With a drill and a 1/4-inch bit, bore a hole through the tenon (illustration A, click above to view).

    2. Cut a 1/4-inch dowel slightly longer than the thickness of the sash.

    3. Apply glue to the dowel and drive it into the hole with a hammer.

    4. When the glue is dry, sand the dowel flush.
