Having planted each of the "anchor" plants in their predetermined positions, host Mayita Dinos and crew set to work softening the edges of the pond with a variety of lovely ornamental grasses (figure A).
- Before starting to dig, Dinos places the still-containerized grasses around the edges of the pond to finalize the layout (figure B). She begins with the Sunstripe Variegated Pampas Grass, Cortaderia selloana 'Monvin'.
- Next Dinos moves on to Dwarf Umbrella Grass, Cyperus albostriatus (figure C). This plant's density, combined with its rich green texture, makes it a lovely contrast to the taller, willowy grass varieties.
- Finally, Dinos adds Horsetail Reed Grass (figure D), Equisetum hyemale , to the already impressive border. Its lovely yellow hue adds yet another level of dimension and interest to the pond plantings.
