You can use dry-wall compound to add texture to your walls. Just apply a thin coat of the compound to the wall, and use objects such as notched trowels (figure A) or sponges (figure B) to create swirls or other textures.
You can also use paint rollers to change the texture of your wall. Use water to thin the dry-wall compound to the consistency of pancake batter. Then roll the compound onto the wall with a regular or textured paint roller (figure C).
