After your drywall is cut and hung, you need a whole set of tools to finish it. Materials:
Dust mask Protective goggles Drywall tape Putty Drywall blade - Wear a dust mask and protective goggles.
- Tape the joints of the drywall (figure A). Use paper tape, fiberglass adhesive tape, or paper adhesive tape.
- To fill in the seams, apply the first coat of putty with a drywall blade, working it into the joint (figure B). Use the blade to smooth the putty and eliminate any lumps.
- After the putty is dry, sand the surface with heavy-grit sandpaper or a sanding disc (figure C).
- Wipe the surface with a damp cloth to remove debris.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 twice, applying a total of three coats of putty.
