After your drywall is cut and hung, you need a whole set of tools to finish it.

    Materials:

    Dust mask
    Protective goggles
    Drywall tape
    Putty
    Drywall blade

    1. Wear a dust mask and protective goggles.
    2. Tape the joints of the drywall (figure A). Use paper tape, fiberglass adhesive tape, or paper adhesive tape.
    3. To fill in the seams, apply the first coat of putty with a drywall blade, working it into the joint (figure B). Use the blade to smooth the putty and eliminate any lumps.
    4. After the putty is dry, sand the surface with heavy-grit sandpaper or a sanding disc (figure C).
    5. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth to remove debris.
    6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 twice, applying a total of three coats of putty.
