When you're camping, a dependable lantern is an essential tool. Choose a lantern according to the conditions in which you'll use it. Battery-operated lanterns are lightweight and convenient, perfect for use inside a tent (figure A). Most come with two brightness settings.
Propane lanterns are for outdoor use only (figure B). Some propane lanterns have their own lighters; others require lighting by hand.
Liquid-fuel lanterns use unleaded, or white gas (figure C). These strong lanterns are good for illuminating large spaces.
