  • How to Tile a Bathroom
  • advertisement

Bathrooms are full of tile, and if it’s old, outdate and ugly, it can make a bathroom feel the same. But you can change that with one weekend DIY project. An easy DIY tiling project, like tiling a tiling a bathroom floorcan make an ordinary bathroom extraordinary.

    Tiling a Bathroom Floor
Because our bathrooms are wet and damp, it’s important to follow the correct procedures for tiling a bathroom floor. The most important thing is to lay down cement backer board on the sub floor. Half-inch cement boards come in 3-by-5-foot sheets. They are easy to handle, and are cut to fit into spaces using a utility knife. The next step is to actually lay out the tiles as you want them to look when finished. Use spacers between the tiles to define the grout lines. The next step is to secure the tiles to the floor with mortar, or thin-set. Use a trowel with quarter-inch grooves on two sides to spread the mortar. Once the mortar sets, it’s time to remove the spacers and grout. The objective is to squeeze grout into the seams using a float and then your fingers. You’ll also need access to clean water and some bath towels to clean away excess grout from the tile surfaces. Tile cleaning tip: use a damp—not wet—towel for this tile cleanup process.
