The combination miter saw/radial-arm saw allows the user to make long cross cuts on wide stock. It can cut through vinyl, aluminum siding and both hard and soft woods. The miter saw/radial-arm saw has a built-in fence and a guide bar that permits the saw to slide along rails. Its table adjusts up to 47 degrees for cutting angles, bevels or miters. Its guide indicates settings needed for crown molding, with positive stops at those settings. Building a Flower Box A flower box is an easy beginner's project to build with a combination miter saw/radial-arm saw (figure A). Here's how. - Set the miter table at 45 degrees and the bevel at the desired angle.
- Make the first cut, with the wood tight against the fence (figure B).
- Flip the stock over to its opposite side to make the second cut.
- Flip it to make the third cut and again for the fourth cut. The four pieces should be an exact fit.
- Cut a rectangular piece of wood to form the bottom of the box.
- Nail the sides together and drill drainage holes in the bottom. Paint or stain the box, as desired.
