Sanding was instrumental with the cabinet re-facing project, and when you're sanding there's lots of dust as a result. To handle the mess, host Paul Ryan recommends the ZipWall, a cool tool that will help you contain the dust when sanding indoor.
Using the ZipWall: - The ZipWall pole expands until the spring end pushes up against the ceiling. Start by adjusting all four poles until they are the proper lengths from the floor to the ceiling.
- Next, take a huge piece of thick plastic and push it up (figure A) with the ZipWall and hold it to the ceiling. Do all four corners, starting at the top.
- The idea is to create an enclosed workspace that's sealed off from the rest of the house (figure B).
- Be sure to tuck the plastic under the ZipWall pole-legs on the floor. The spring inside the poles makes it easy to lift and tuck the plastic tarp.
- You can take the ZipWall one step further: If you have a vacuum cleaner, you can take it and stick it underneath the ZipWall and turn it on. This will create a negative pressure that will suck dust up from the area you're working in.
