    Figure B

Craft knives may be small, but they're not just for small projects. Some are useful even with heavy-duty projects.

The basic utility knife holds a retractable blade (figure A) and is used to cut a variety of materials, from cloth to sheet metal.

Craft knives often come in sets, with several different sizes of interchangeable blades (figure B). They may be used to cut through paper, cardboard, leather and some types of wood. The sharper blades on a craft knife may also be used as chisels.

The retractable knife works like a utility knife but has a longer blade that is perforated and rarely needs to be replaced. When the blade dulls, simply snap off the end to reveal a new, sharp edge.
