Around the house, caulk is used to fill gaps, cracks and holes of all kinds. For various kinds of jobs, you'll use acrylic caulk, silicone caulk, tub-and-tile caulk and painter's caulk (figure A). Here's how to use caulk to fill in the cracks between tiles on your bathroom wall. Materials: Caulking gun Tub-and-tile caulk Utility knife Damp cloth - To load the caulking gun, pull back its lever and insert a tube of caulk into the shaft (figure B).
- Using a utility knife, cut off the spout of the caulk, cutting closer to the end for smaller cracks or higher up on the spout for bigger cracks.
- Squeeze the trigger several times to start the stream of caulk.
- Point the spout into the crack, and apply a stream of caulk (figure C).
- Use a damp cloth to wipe off any excess.
