    Figure H

At this point in our project, we've almost completed the installation of our home irrigation system. In the previous episode, we installed a backflow-prevention device, a master control valve box, a 4" pop-up continuous sprayer sprinkler head and several microsprayers.

Now we're ready to begin wiring the valves.

    Steps:

    1. Remove the cover from one of the zone boxes.

    2. Strip back the black insulation covering the main control wire (about eight inches) to reveal the colored wires (figure A); each of these wires can be designated to control one zone. The white wire is the common wire: it will be connected to each valve in the system as well as to the master control valve.

    3. For our Zone 2, we chose the orange wires and stripped the inulsation off them (about 1/2 inch), as shown in figure B. The electronic valve comes with two wires attached to it. Strip both of these back the same way.

    4. Take the orange wires and one of the valve wires, twist them together and screw on a silicone-filled waterproof wire nut (figure C).

    5. Next, take the white common wires and the other valve wire, twist them togehter and screw on another silicone wire nut (figure D). Bend the other colored wires out of the way by wrapping them around the main control wire.

    6. Place back in box and replace lid.

Installing Filters and Nozzles on Sprinkler Heads

    1. Start by pulling up on the protective cap ring until the sprinkler head comes up enough to get your hand around it (figure E). It's spring-loaded, so grasp it firmly.

    2. Unscrew the protective cap and drop one filter (figure F) into the head, as shown in figure G.

    3. Next, screw on the variable-arc nozzle and release the head back down into the casing (figure H).
