    If you notice dead or damaged branches on your trees and bushes, prune them off to keep the plants healthy. You can also prune to prevent branches from growing into each other and to enhance a plant's shape.

    Use long-handled pruning clippers for branches less than 1" thick (figure A). Clip branches as close to the base as possible.

    For larger branches, you'll need a pruning saw (figure B). Start your cut underneath the branch, and cut about halfway through. Then cut the remaining portion of the branch from the top.

    If you have a lot of trees to prune, consider an all-in-one pruning tool (figure C), which includes a saw and a clipper and is on an extension.
