    In cold winter areas, and even occasionally in mild winter areas, you must protect citrus trees when frost is predicted. One good way: put a tomato cage over the citrus tree, and then wrap a double layer of floating row cover around the cage (figure A). This way, the cover never touches the leaves and there's no danger of the cover getting wet and freezing to the leaves. An alternate to the tomato cage is bamboo stakes, and an alternate to the row cover is thin, cotton bed sheets.
