The Cades Cove Baptist Church was built in 1827. In 1841, a schism developed within the Baptist denomination over biblical interpretation with respect to missionary work. The Cades Cove the congregation renamed their church the Primitive Baptist Church to distinguish itself from what would later become The Cades Cove Missionary Baptist Church.
