Tip 3: If it's too close to cut, use a rasp. When you're purchasing tools, you may want to buy what we call a rasp, a 4-inch block that looks like a cheese grater, with which you rasp, or smooth, down edges. It's a good tool to have along the way because sometimes after you make cuts, they are a little rough and need to be smoothed off.
