In this episode, David Marks hits the road up the coast of Northern California to meet two of the most prestigious woodworking artists in the world: James Krenov and Art Carpenter. Krenov, known for his old-world teaching philosophy that has become a prerequisite for the advanced woodworker throughout the world, shares insights on furniture making. The European-trained Krenov moved to Northern California in 1981 where he created and led the College of the Redwoods' Fine Woodworking School. In his twenty years with the school he has taught hundreds of eager students from around the world while continuing to build his own fine furniture. Master-craftsmen Art Carpenter, for the last four decades, has been a guiding light in the world of woodworking design and technique. His unique creations have shown many woodworkers that they can be free to design as they please, and to experiment. In this unique and rare episode, David interviews both Krenov and Carpenter in their respective shops, discusses their craft and views their works.
