WOOD WORKS
  • Asian-Inspired Open Bookcase -
  • Episode WWK-603

Made primarily from Australian lacewood, this tall (66 inches) contemporary bookcase is not designed to be placed against a wall. With an Asian-inspired design, it is open on both sides (15 inches deep) so it can be positioned in an area away from a wall and function as a display stand for art objects as well as books. Dovetail joinery was employed to assemble the case, and the bookcase has adjustable shelves. The case is solid cherry and the base is made solid maple that has been dyed to look like ebony. The distinctive curves of the base are achieved using the band saw and sculpting tools.
