Weekend Mechanic host Bruce Bonebrake shows how to improve fuel economy with several projects done on a 2004 F-150 Ford pick-up truck. The projects include installing new exhaust headers, cold air intake system and throttle body spacer to improve air flow and fuel atomization. This results in a more complete combustion, more efficiently burning engine and increased fuel economy by about 4 miles per gallon. A performance exhaust system is installed which also increases horsepower and torque leading to improved fuel economy. Next, a retractable truck bed tonneau cover is installed to reduce drag and wind resistance. And finally, the vehicles on-board computer is re-flashed using a flash tuner system. The improved systems add up to about an added 10 mile per gallon gas savings!
