Our riding lawn mower has over 1,100 hours of use on it. It has started to smoke and the engine is running rough.
DIY Weekend Mechanic Bruce Bonebrake removes the engine and takes it apart to determine if it can be restored. He finds that the engine does not need to be completely replaced, but can instead be re-bored and rebuilt. Bruce demonstrates the use of several specialty tools designed for small-engine repair. This episode covers taking apart a small engine, having the cylinder rebored, and replacing worn out parts. When the job is done, the engine is almost as good as new, and we have saved some money by getting a few more years of use out of an old mower.
