    Melissa has been making dolls since she was a child, and she particularly loves anything related to Halloween. In this project, she creates a painted fabric pumpkin.

    Materials:


    • Plain cotton fabric

    • Pins

    • Sewing needle

    • Thread

    • Scissors

    • Striped or patterned fabric

    • Gesso

    • Acrylic paint in a variety of colors

    • Paint brushes

    • Epoxy glue

    • Cotton stuffing

    Steps:

    1. Cut six pumpkin pieces of plain cotton fabric (figure A), two stem pieces from patterned fabric. Pin pieces together for sewing, keeping the pumpkin pieces separate from the stem pieces.

    2. Sew pumpkin pieces together, leaving an opening for stuffing.

    3. Sew stem pieces together, also leaving an opening for stuffing later.

    4. Clip and turn sewn pumpkin and stem.

    5. Stuff pumpkin firmly and stitch opening closed (figure B).

    6. Prime pumpkin with two coats of gesso.

    7. Paint pumpkin base color. Let dry.

    8. Paint face details (figure C). Let dry.

    9. Stuff stem of pumpkin and glue/epoxy or stitch to top of pumpkin.
