Project by Larone Hudson of New Orleans, La.

Larone dabbled in various artistic endeavors but found his niche when he started working with clay. In this project, he makes a handbuilt "Delta" dog--with great expression and a lot of attitude.

    Materials:

    clay
    rolling pin
    underglazes
    acrylic or enamel paints
    paintbrushes
    clay tools
    knife

    Steps:

    1. Roll clay to about 1/2-inch thick.

    2. Shape the body and limbs of the animal by hand.

    3. Use remnants to shape and finish the sculpture.

    4. Paint on underglazes (clay with pigment) before bisque firing.

    5. Once fired, finish sculpture with whatever painting process you choose--acrylics and/or enamels.
