Tami never really liked making arts and crafts as a child, but when her stepmother dragged her into a crafting store some years ago, she discovered polymer clay--and has been baking ever since. She found a way to add to her extensive collection of clowns by creating her own out of polymer clay. Materials: Sculpey clay: green, yellow, red, orange, white

acrylics: magenta, blue, red, green, black
needle tool and various clay/sculpting tools Steps: 1. Start by making the head. Sculpt chin and eyes (push clay eyeballs into head and attach eyelids on top of eyes). 2. Attach nose (push in nostrils) and create a neck. Insert thin wire into head and neck for stability. Make sure it’s long enough to go through body. 3. Make body with yellow clay in a rectangular, thin shape. Attach head and neck to body. 4. Roll out one green and one orange leg and push into body. Insert wire for stability. 5. Create arms with one green and one orange piece of clay. Make sure the color of the legs and the arms are on opposite sides (right arm green, right leg orange, and vice versa). 6. Position arms as if they are holding something. Create hands with white clay. 7. Create feet with red clay. Create hair with orange clay in small thinned out pieces on the head; then scrape with a needle tool to add texture. 8. Create collar with yellow, orange and green pieces of clay shaped like triangles. Layer around neck. 9. Create hat with three coned pieces of green clay. Then cut a "headband" piece of yellow clay to go around green cones. Add orange balls to tips of green hat. 10. Create belt by rolling out pieces of orange, green, and yellow clay, braiding them, and letting the rest hang down at his side. 11. To make him "juggle": Roll three balls, one green, one yellow, and one a combo of all three colors. Bend a wire and thread the three balls in place. 12. Bake separately from clown. Punch holes into hands to glue in later. 13. Heat oven to 275 F degrees. Stand clown against mug with foil and secure in place. Bake for 15 minutes and let cool outside of oven. 14. To paint: Go over the white parts of the clown (face, hands) with white paint. Paint facial features like makeup (red cheeks and lips, eye color, clown makeup around eyes). 15. Paint costume, leaving orange clay as is, only painting the yellow and green. Paint blue stars on yellow with pink dots and pink moons on the green clay with blue dots. 16. Paint stand he will stand on yellow. Let dry. Mount clown on stand with household glue. 17. Add embellishments (beads, stars, star on ball, etc.), add your signature, and don’t forget the date.
