Project by Jeanne McGee from Minneapolis, Minn. When Jeanne moved to Minnesota from San Francisco, she was amazed at the number of birdhouses that were hanging in so many yards. With her "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude, she put a new twist on the concept by using her printmaking skills. Materials: 7 pieces of 1/4" plywood 1 piece of 1/2" plywood jigsaw ink ink roller press bed glue nails enamel paint polyurethane Steps: 1. Cut seven pieces of 1/4-inch plywood for the birdhouse: two for roof, two for sides, one for bottom, one for back, one for front(with 1-1/4-inch hole in center). 2. Carve a decorative pattern into 1/2-inch plywood. 3. Roll ink on to carved wood. 4. Lay pieces of cut wood pieces on to the carved wood. 5. Run through the press. The carved pattern is now on the seven pieces of cut wood. 6. Allow ink to dry one day. 7. Proceed to build birdhouse: Glue, nail, clamp pieces together. 8. Add paint to edges for finishing touch.
